BC Living

Canada tulips VictoriaI’ve been living in BC for almost 2 yrs now.  It’s a bit of a dream at times.  The best part of living here is definitely the scenery.  How can you beat mountains and ocean combined? Yes, the weather is rainier than Ontario.  It’s cooler in the summer but warmer in the winter.  I consider that a good trade off.towards horseshoe bay May 2017

My favourite activity is taking the ferry over to Vancouver Island.  We have relatives there and sometimes we go to take part in some social activities, like the BC Exchange Teachers’ conference. Victoria is a lovely city filled with flowers and music.  Very walkable.horseshoe bay May 2017

Closer to home, our little community of Walnut Grove has much to offer.  Our home is just a short walk away from the recreation centre which features a huge pool.  I can walk to my doctor, dentist, the grocery store and even a great little wool shop.  All of this is within 2 kms.  I frequently stop to stare at the view.  It’s an extra incentive to walk up the hill instead of drive to the shops.evening walk Walnut Grove

A bit further down the road, we have the historic town of Fort Langley. Last weekend, Leon and I took a walk around the village, starting at the Saturday outdoor market, stopping in the cemetery to look at the military gravestones, then further into town towards the river, with its high water levels.  We stopped into the Centennial Museum to check out the WWI exhibit and strolled back to the car with only a short stop to check out a new shop I hadn’t noticed before.Fraser river Ft. For all the enjoyment I get out of living here, we have already decided to put the house up for sale as we have purchased a larger home further east in Aldergrove.  My days have been filled with scrubbing, painting and staging this house in preparation for the big sale.  Isn’t it always the way that we get the house looking just right and then move to the next house?  Well that’s my reality anyway.  Perhaps it’s just the evolution of my lifestyle now that I am retired.  Sprucing up real estate keeps me active and I have to say I think I am a little addicted to painting walls.

  1. The water diffinently looks high, is that from rain or spring/summer runoff from the mountains? We are still planning on doing the Pacific Coast highway leaving New Hampshire sometime in late July. Might be in your neck of the woods in August! We’ll keep you posted.

    • It won’t be as walkable but it will have its assets. Most,y, we will have a private yard with the hot tub for Leon. And a peek a boo mountain view from the house.
