On our last full day in Santorini, we ventured into the cities at the other end of the Caldera, Oia and Fira. They sit high atop the cliffs, all white washed as is the custom here. Oia was actually destroyed by an earthquake in 1956 and fully rebuilt. I can’t help but be reminded of our visit to New Zealand, the shaky isles. I guess this part of the world gets frequent earthquakes.

The town was lovely with very pricey and trendy shops lining the narrow walkways. The views are incredible! In recent years, this has become a popular destination for Chinese weddings and we saw a few brides having their pictures taken with the white buildings and blue skies as their backdrop. Actually, we weren’t sure if they were actual brides or just models doing shots for a catalogue.

We ended our day with time at the hotel pool and dinner on the beach at Perissa.  Our last day was meant to be a few hours driving around, taking more pictures. But the day was going to be very hot, so we checked out and asked the hotel if we could stay by the pool until we had to leave for our ferry to Crete. They were so wonderfully accommodating!
